Chobe is a convenient two hour drive from the world famous Victoria Falls, making these two popular destinations an excellent combination, and it is also close to the Okavango Delta, the Savuti & Linyanti swamps and, though further away, makes for an excellent combination destination with the Kalahari Salt Pans or the Central Kalahari National Park – both offering entirely different safari experiences.
As with most African safari destinations Chobe is subject to the seasons - the rains above all. With the advent of the wet season in October/November, the waterholes and pans in the back country fill up and the game tends to drift off into the remote central areas while the Savuti region becomes a vital summer grazing area for huge herds of zebra and wildebeest.
By April the rains are over and the scattered elephant and buffalo populations congregate into larger herds. These herds migrate to the permanent water sources of the Chobe and Linyanti rivers, gathering there in their thousands. The game viewing along the Chobe River from June to October in particular is awesome.
The Chobe area is a destination in itself but it’s always a good idea to combine it with one of the other amazing safari destinations in Botswana or nearby Zambia. Enough cannot be said about the value of firsthand knowledge of the area – which is we send our consultants to visit the lodges as often as possible so they can best advise you on how to plan your trip, where and when to go, what to expect and – most importantly of all – how to put it all together so your safari is a seamless experience that surpasses your expectations. Send us your enquiry – with as many questions as you can think of – and let’s get started with planning your Chobe safari.
