Bazaruto’s remarkable coral reefs and marine life make it one of the world’s best destinations for snorkelling and diving. All of our recommended hotels and lodges feature top of the range dive centres with the very best equipment, allowing you to experience the area’s abundant and diverse marine life for yourself.

A handful of luxury boutique hotels have established themselves on the Archipelago in recent years, offering high standards of accommodation and making the region highly sought after by those looking to relax and get away from it all. Despite being luxurious, the majority of the accommodation in the region is rustic and constructed to blend in to its environment with minimal impact on the environment.

Private villas with their very own infinity pools leading straight onto the beach, ‘Star Bars’ serving up the freshest sushi imaginable, endless white sandy beaches and sunset dhow cruises- you will find it all here in Southern Mozambique.

Highlights

Great Fishing »

A huge catch!

Bazaruto Island, as well as Benguerra and Magaruque are attracting increasing numbers of saltwater fly fishermen (and women). The sight of someone standing etched against a golden sunrise, gracefully casting their line out over the waves is a vision as ancient as the sand itself. A fishing trip is becoming an extremely popular half or full day activity for the holidaymaker and many return home counting the experience amongst their holiday’s best. It is extremely easy to organise these trips from your lodge as most have excellent equipment, guides and of course boats.

Sunset Dhow Cruises »

Classic Dhow

Many centuries ago, the wooden dhow was a common sight plying the waters off Africa’s Indian Ocean Coast. These large manmade wooden boats became the backbone of the burgeoning trade between Africa and the rest of the world including the middle and far east. Nowadays, these beautiful dhows continue to grace the coastline. It is hard to imagine a finer end to the day than by boarding one of these ancient vessels, sitting back with canapés and an ice cold drink in hand, propelled only by the dhow’s sails, taking in another exquisite African sunset.
