The region also places a large emphasis on animal conservation. Conservation in this region is about the management, development and rehabilitation of the environment to create a sustainable ecosystem through the implementation of fundamental conservation principals. Guests at Shamwari Game Reserve have the opportunity to visit their Born Free Foundation Animal Rescue Centre which, over the years has been able to rescue big cats from dangerous situations and look after them with a lifetime of care.

A major attraction of the Garden Route Safari Region is the logistical ease in which one can reach the area. It’s location at the end of South Africa’s famous Garden Route makes it a perfect addition to any self-drive itinerary, whether it be at the start or end of your trip.
