General Information
Isandlwana Lodge is carved into the iNyoni rock overlooking Mount Isandlwana, the site of the historic Anglo-Zulu war battle which took place on the 22nd of January, 1879.
Today, the enigmatic mountain of Isandlwana nestles peacefully amongst the majestic beauty of the Zululand hills. In January 1879, however, it was the site of one of the most dramatic and enthralling events in the history of the Zulu Kingdom. The battle of Isandlwana is regarded as one of the most significant fought on South African soil. Some 25,000 Zulu warriors over-whelmed the British encampment, killing around 1352 of the 1500 soldiers.
Isandlwana Lodge has twelve en-suite luxury rooms with private balconies which have been decorated in a tasteful blend of traditional and modern styles and effectively transport guests back into colonial African days. All of the rooms have sweeping views of the surrounding battlefields, which, even if they weren't historic landmarks, would still attract people from all over the world due to their rugged beauty.
The lodge has a splendid pool with great views, and an excellent chef who prepares some of the best fare you will find in the Kwa Zulu Natal, Battlefields region.
At Isandlwana you should take time to relax and re-live the history of both the Anglo Zulu and Anglo Boer Wars, as well as enjoy the vibrant culture of the modern Zulu people. Or even visit one of the famous Zululand Game Reserves for a bit of Big Five game viewing.
