Phinda Private Game Reserve is situated in the lush Maputaland region in northern KwaZulu-Natal, bordering the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park – a World Heritage Site – Phinda comprises 22 000 hectares (54 500 acres) of prime conservation land.

Seven distinct habitats shelter an abundance of wildlife including Africa’s Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, black and white rhino, buffalo) and over 380 bird species, while the marine diversity off the nearby coast of Sodwana is said to rival the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Location

Phinda Reserve is located in the Northern KwaZulu Natal safari area between the Indian Ocean and the World Heritage Greater St Lucia Wetland Park.

Information

Enjoy a daily five hour morning walk, a short pre-sunset walk and night drive combination. Hearty brunches and delicious dinners are served around the fire with superlative services offered by the staff. Walking trails can accommodate a maximum of eight people in four tents (minimum age 16) and reasonable standards of fitness are a prerequisite but distances walked depend on wildlife encounters.

Rooms

Four spacious en-suite tents in a scenic bush setting. Comfortable beds, soft pillows and duvets, hot bucket showers and flush w.c.’s.

Activities

Specialised, highly trained professional rangers provide in-depth interpretive wilderness experiences and excellent birding. The program consists of a 4 to 5-hour morning walk, and a short pre-sunset walk and night drive combination. Tracking animals on foot is an unforgettable experience.
