General Information
The secluded Rocktail Bay Lodge lies secretly in a coastal forest, and offers one of the most exclusive beach experiences in South Africa, with nearly 40 kilometres of pristine coastline.
Rocktail Bay Lodge is within the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, one of South Africa's World Heritage Sites, which spans a range of ecological zones. Situated just offshore is the Maputaland Marine Reserve which offers an additional sanctuary with extraordinary diving and snorkeling encounters with huge shoals of fish, dolphins and whales.
Accommodation at Rocktail Bay is in eleven secluded wooden tree-house chalets, which are raised on stilts into the forest canopy, each with private deck and en-suite bathroom. A boardwalk winds from the lodge, through the dune forest and down to the beach. There is one family chalet with one main room, and a second room with two single beds. The main lodge has a wonderful deck and swimming pool which are perfect for lying back and dozing away the lazy, sunny afternoons.
Rocktail Bay's location allows for that rare combination of action, fun and relaxation, calling to mind the true family holiday. The lush area surrounding Rocktail Bay has a variety of animals, birds and plant life that provide a natural counterpoint to the bushveld areas of southern Africa. Few sections of the South African coastline are as unspoilt and secluded. Today the area is well-known for its superlative dive spots, as well as the Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles that come to lay their eggs on the beaches.
The chefs at Rocktail Bay prepare an excellent feast of traditional home made cuisine. Meals are taken under a giant Natal Mahogany tree where you will often be entertained by the thick-tailed bushbabies bouncing around the buffet. In the evening, snacks are enjoyed at the bar or around the fireplace where lively conversation of the day's events, sightings and tall fisherman tales are told.
Outside Magazine in the US voted Rocktail Bay's beach as one of the best in the world!. Rocktail Bay Lodge is the ideal escape for people who truly want to relax and unwind on one of the wildest coastlines anywhere on earth.
