General information

The five star Tuningi Safari Lodge is set in a valley on the western side of the Madikwe Game Reserve.

The theme of the interiors is "Colonial African Chic" and the main thatched lodge offers beautiful indoor and outdoor lounges, an elegant dining room and a magnificent rim flow pool that overlooks a waterhole. This is all interlinked by a sweeping, wooden deck that leads to a boma under an ancient fig tree, perfect for dinners around a blazing fire.

Tuningi is one of the very few five star lodges in South Africa that welcomes children and by doing so, avails them to the wonders of nature, wildlife and our delicate eco-system.

Daily game drives in open 4x4 vehicles allow guests to sense the excitement of the African bush. Lion, elephant, buffalo, white and black rhino, leopard and the rare and endangered wild dog are only some of the sightings to be experienced during your stay.

Location

Tuningi Safari Lodge is located in the 75 000-hectare malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve which is located in the North West Province of South Africa.

Rooms

Tuningi Safari Lodge has four luxury suites and a further two family cottages each consisting of two bedrooms with an adjoining lounge, kitchenette and dining room. Little Tuningi is a part of the main lodge but can be booked as stand alone accommodation. It has a double room and a family unit as well as a private pool and boma (for outdoor meals around the fire). All bush villas have air-conditioning, ceiling fans, gas fireplaces, en-suite bathrooms, outdoor rock showers and private wrap around wooden decks.

Activities

Morning and afternoon/evening game-drives in open game-viewing vehicles, bush sundowners and drink stops in the Reserve, visits to hides. Regrettably, due to safety concerns, children under 5 years of age are unable to participate in game-drives (shorter kiddies game drives can be arrange after breakfast).

Dining

The boma is the perfect place to have dinner next to the blazing fire or enjoy the marvels of the night sky above the canopy of trees after your evening game drive. Choose from a wide selection of wines to accompany your meal from the extensive wine cellar.
