General Information

Makweti Safari Lodge straddles an area of some 15,000 square kilometers (10,000 miles) and is situated in the Welgevonden Game Reserve in the Waterberg. The surrounding area is unmatched in its beauty with soaring craggy mountain heights on the southern escarpment, the Seven Sisters guarding the northern grasslands, and spectacular rock buttresses to the east. Game is plentiful and the Waterberg area is renowned for exhilarating game drives.

The main lodge at Makweti, built into natural rock formations in the Waterberg Mountains, is a dramatic architectural synthesis, which commands spectacular views of the Makweti Gorge and the undulating landscape beyond. The lodge is a member of the elite gourmet society, Chaine des Rottisseurs and Great Hotels of the World, so an incredible experience is assured.

Makweti Safari Lodge comprises of 5 secluded thatch and stone suites accommodating a maximum of 10 guests at any one time. Makweti plays an active part in local wildlife conservation, and can offer guests the opportunity to spend a day with the resident Elephant researcher, who is conducting a study in the behaviour of an elephant population in order to determine the dynamics of elephant relationships and offers a rare opportunity to discover more about these fascinating creatures.

Location

Makweti Safari Lodge finds its home in the Welgevonden Game Reserve in the heart of if the Waterberg.

Rooms

Five secluded suites, individually decorated with antique treasures and plush furnishings for the discerning. Amenities include indoor and outdoor showers, Victorian bathtubs, log fires and private decks with sweeping views of the bushveld.

Activities

Twice daily safaris in open vehicles or on foot, combine a landscape experience with game viewing - over 16 species of antelope, plains game, lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, wild dog and the rare brown hyena. The excellent game viewing experience is complimented by other activities such as stargazing, bird watching and walking excursions to the bushmen art.

Dining

Makweti, is recognized for excellence in cuisine by the Chaines des Rotisseurs. Innovative, exciting flavors, of pan African cuisine, with a traditional twist, delights the most discerning palate. Meals are enjoyed on the dining room deck, in the dining room in the warm glow of an open fire, or under a starlit sky in a reed enclosed boma.
