Bushmans Kloof is a heavenly wilderness reserve, a retreat of unparalleled beauty and recreational diversity, the perfect place to discover the continued re-birth of a long forgotten land.

A refuge for body and soul, Bushmans Kloof is surrounded by thousands of acres of majestic, savage beauty and wind-sculpted landscape of reddish sandstone rock formations - in the heart of the Cederberg Mountains in the Western Cape.

The 18,000 acre wilderness reserve boasts one of the world's largest open-air art galleries with more than 130 ancient San Bushmen rock art sites, fabulous walking (guided or unguided) opportunities and a serene oasis setting for total relaxation.

There are no large predators at Bushmans Kloof, and so you are encouraged to explore the great outdoors and interact with nature as you please. The reserve offers walking, mountain biking, river walks, canoeing and swimming in crystal clear natural rock pools, bird watching, rock art excursions, game viewing and sunset game drives in open 4x4 game vehicles. It is the perfect environment for painting, photography (especially in the September Namaqualand flower season), stargazing and quality down-time.

Location

Hidden in a riverine valley, surrounded by spectacular red rock formations and babbling seasonal rivers at the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains.

Rooms

The main lodge accommodates thirty-two in luxurious cottages amid the lush, terraced gardens. All the rooms are individually decorated with private verandas, beautiful views and a choice of four stunning infinity pools. Koro Lodge, a stylish private villa opened on the reserve to offer privacy and flexible accommodation to groups of friends and families, with children welcome all year round, unlike the adult-only main lodge. Accommodating a maximum of 10 guests in two en-suite luxury rooms, two playroom daybeds and a colourful loft room, complete with single beds for up to four children, the new lodge is a perfectly formed home-away-from-home. There is a swimming pool for cooling dips, verandas with breathtaking views and alfresco dining to make the most of the great outdoors. The services of a dedicated chef and a ranger with a game viewing vehicle are included in the rates.

Dining

Just-picked fresh fruit and vegetables from the Lodge's organic garden are a healthy enhancement to every meal. The day starts with a light Continental breakfast after which you set out on your daily activity. After working up an appetite, you'll return for the legendary mid-morning Brunch. High Tea is served in the afternoon. Dinners are a gourmet affair and can be enjoyed in a variety of fine dining and al fresco venues, depending on the weather or your personal preference.
