General information
Plantation Lodge rests on the soft, red-brown hills amidst the vastness and silence of East Africa. The Lodge is set on a working coffee farm outside Karatu, less than an hour away from the Ngorongoro Crater gate.
The individually furnished rooms and suites melting harmoniously into the flowering garden offer comfort and relaxation. Everywhere you look, you can see and even feel the personal atmosphere of this owner-run lodge with furnishings that were selected with great attention to detail. Plantation Lodge’s cordial service leaves no wish unfulfilled.
A small intimate lodge with a great eye for detail the lodge only 23 rooms allowing the owners, Renate and Udo Marahens to keep up with their high service level. The elegant rooms, each with a different decor, have large beds, spacious bathrooms and verandah. Plantation Lodge has a swimming pool from where you can enjoy the lovely surrounding landscape after your game drive.
The lodge’s location promises maximum safari enjoyment: a stone’s throw from the entrance to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a short hop from the Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks, and just a short journey from the Serengeti.

Plantation Lodge is an ideal base from which to explore the Ngorongoro Crater Region- or alternatively just relax here in this splendid setting.

The lodge is located a stone’s throw from the entrance to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a short hop from the Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks, and just a short journey from the Serengeti.
Rooms
Plantation Lodge boasts 16 Standard Rooms, a Honeymoon Suite, 2 ‘Coffee House’ Suites and the ‘Garden House’ which has four double rooms. All travellers are catered for here whether it be a honeymoon couple or a small group of friends. All the rooms at Plantation Lodge are stylish and spacious, fully en suite and individually designed. Most have private verandahs with sun loungers. The suites certainly offer superb accommodation and are well worth the upgrade where available.
Activities
As well as safari journeys to the nearby Ngorongoro Conservation area and Lake Manayara National Park, there are a whole host of activities available. A number of hikes are available in the vicinity. For the less adventurous, there is prolific bird watching to be had in the gardens of the lodge. Visits to the coffee plantation on which the lodge is set as well as a number of adjacent farms to the lodge are all possible. Alternatively, sit and relax in the beautiful lodge grounds, sip on a cool drink and take in the scenery.
Dining
Fresh variety is the motto of the kitchen. The lodge grows its own vegetables, salads, herbs and fruit. This means that the products from the kitchen are healthy, untreated and particularly tasty. In the restaurant guests are pampered every evening with a fine multicourse meal in a stylish, comfortable atmosphere. A good wine from the cellar rounds off the culinary pleasure. At lunchtime you can enjoy dishes al fresco. Lunch or afternoon coffee and cake can be served to you at one of the garden tables
