General information

Olakira Camp is an intimate mobile tented camp of 6 guest tents and 2 common area tents. Olakira moves through the southern and central Serengeti, in areas of great wildlife concentration.

From December to March, the camp is in the southern Serengeti, or Ndutu area. Here are the famous Serengeti plains - endless grasslands where lion and cheetah find perfect hunting grounds. The December to March period is the magical time when the Great Migration takes over the Ndutu plains to give birth to the next generation.

The camp moves up to the central Serengeti from June to November, where the concentration of animals is denser at this time. The central Serengeti valley offers varied landscapes and a very high density of game year round. During these months, you can sneak up on the animals from above with a balloon flight over the Serengeti from Olakira Camp.

The Serengeti hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in the world, and is home to one of the great wonders in the world, the Great Migration. Over a million wildebeest and some 600,000 zebra move through the eco-system, with lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog and crocodile making sure only the strongest survive. The sheer volume combined with the daily dramas of life and death make this an experience that will be the star of the stories you tell years and years from now.

Location

Olakira is a seasonal luxury mobile camp adopting two locations throughout the year namely the Southern and Central Serengeti.

The Migration

The wildebeest are one of the most important pieces in the Serengeti ecosystem puzzle. For centuries, wildebeest have followed the rains and used the Serengeti ecosystem with its mosaic of grasslands and savannas to their advantage. Everyone who has had the chance to see nearly 2 million animals on the move has been touched by the magic of this place. Even if the wildebeest looks a bit like a clown and, according to an African legend, has been put together by God using left over spare parts, the animal is superbly fit for its migratory lifestyle.

Tents

The guest tents are spacious and comfortable with large king-size or twin beds and convenient bathrooms. Each tent has its own private verandah with an amazing view overlooking the Serengeti. Bathrooms are extremely comfortable for a mobile camp, with shower, wash basin and an environmentally friendly toilet.

Activities

The southern and central Serengeti areas are renowned for fabulous wildlife viewing. Drives in these areas, short trips or full day explorations give you close encounters with astonishing numbers of animals. Balloon safaris give you the unique experience of observing the animals, and the Serengeti landscapes from above. Back in camp, storytelling, playing chess, star gazing or simply listening to the great sounds of the bush are some of the activities you can enjoy back in the comfort of the intimate Olakira Camp.
