General information

Set along the banks of the mighty Rufiji River is the majestic Sand Rivers Selous Camp. This luxury safari camp is in the perfect location for exploring the vast untamed wilderness of the Selous Game Reserve.

The lodge is a safari retreat, which is small but beautifully formed, with a lovely swimming pool, excellent cooking and top class service. Each of the eight spacious open-fronted cottages are built from stone and thatch and all have magnificent views of the river. All the cottages at Sand River Selous Camp are well spread out which adds to the exclusivity of the Safari experience.

Sand Rivers Selous has some of Tanzania's best safari guides who are there to take you out for daily adventures including boating on the Rufiji, weaving past hippopotamus and crocodile; driving on the trail of lion or wild dog; an elephant bush walk; a night sleeping out under the stars, or fishing in solitude, barefoot on a river rock.

Location

Sand Rivers is located in the northern part of the Selous Game Reserve, on the banks of the Rufiji River.

Rooms

Accommodation at Sand Rivers Selous is in one of 8 spacious open-fronted cottages made of stone and thatch, and raised up on the banks of the Rufiji with amazing views out across the river. There are five standard rooms and two suites as well as the new one-bedroom private house - The Rhino House. The suites and the standard rooms all have spacious, open, en-suite bathrooms, with flush toilets and powerful showers.

Activities

Whether its game drives, walking safaris, fishing, boating, or a combination of all of these, the Selous never disappoints, and there is always something thrilling to see. The Rufiji River provides an utterly unique view of life in the Selous by boat and one of Sand Rivers most coveted activities are walking safaris. Walk through magical and diverse landscapes, seeing things not always visible from a vehicle.

Fly Camping

For the more adventurous, fly camping offers the outdoor experience of a lifetime. This is a highly recommended part of any safari to Sand Rivers, and available at an extra supplement. Guests sleep under spacious mosquito nets equipped with safari bedrolls. A bucket shower with hot water and a short drop toilet is set up behind camp. This is the perfect combination of adventure and bush comfort. Each camping spot is chosen for its view or the game in the area and allows you to completely absorb yourself in the wilderness.
