General information
Few other safaris in Tanzania evoke the romance, mystique and spiritual delight of the African bush as one in the Selous Game Reserve. Embracing 54,000 square kilometres of south-western Tanzania, it is the largest protected wilderness reserve on the continent, three times larger than the Serengeti and twice the size of Belgium.
The Selous Safari Camp is a classic luxury tented camp designed to blend in with the spectacular natural scenery in what is one of the most photogenic areas of the Selous Game Reserve. Each of the nine safari tents sits atop its own raised timber platform, affording guests an unmatched experience of the African bush.
The camp has the prime position at the centre of the unique riverine and lake complex, with the highest concentration of African wildlife and myriad birdlife. There are no fences and no artificial modifications to the natural fauna so animals wander freely through the camp.
Much as guests are encouraged to become as one with the bush surroundings, full consideration has been given to comfort within the camp itself. The camp has its own sitting, dining area, and swimming pool, providing a very personal and intimate safari experience. The nearby Selous Private Camp is also available for small groups on an exclusively private basis.

Selous Safari Camp is set amongst trees on the banks of Lake Nzarekera, one of the oxbow lakes that feeds off the Selous Game Reserve, Southern Tanzania.
Rooms
Each of the 9 vast luxury tents are raised onto wooden platforms with palm canopies & views. The tents were designed with widest side to front, to maximize views and breeze. Each has an en suite bathroom with double brass basins, cupboard space and dressing area and adjoining shower area open to the stars. There are two verandas - one to front off the bedroom, second off rear of tent.
Activities
Open four-wheeled drive vehicles take you out on early morning and evening game drives into the surrounding bush. On the Rufiji River the camp offers game viewing by boat. A walking safari is also possible from Selous Private Camp which encourages you to develop and utilise all of your senses, whilst you become at one with mother nature.
Wildlife
The Selous’ wildlife is spectacular and some of its mammal and reptile populations are the largest in Africa, namely buffaloes, elephants, hippos, wild dogs and crocodiles. Other wildlife include the wildebeest, zebra, eland, the greater kudu, sable antelopes, giraffe, baboon and vervet monkeys. There is a large population of predators including lions, leopards, cheetah and the spotted hyena, and about 440 species of birds in the Selous, of both resident and migratory birds.
