General information

Mwaleshi Camp, an enigmatic walking camp, accommodates 6 to 8 guests within the remote North Luangwa National Park.

Situated on a scenic bend of the Mwaleshi River ten kilometres from the Luangwa confluence, this is a place of peace and simplicity, contrasted with stunning wildlife action. It enriches the soul and quickens the senses.

The excitement of watching hyenas’ hunting puku in front of camp, or observing huge herds of buffalo and the endemic Cookson’s wildebeest on foot, are some of the experiences that might draw you to Mwaleshi Camp, but the comfort of the en-suite rooms crafted around trees and the excellent cuisine are equally important factors to consider.

The camp manager will be your guide and host, assisted on walking safaris by an armed national parks scout.

A day trip to the Mwaleshi Falls upstream of the camp, has been rated by one travel writer as a top highlight in Zambia and is often possible if staying for three or more nights.

Mwaleshi Camp is located in the very remote and wild location of North Luangwa National Park, a 40 minute flight from the local air strip at Tafika.

Rooms

Each of the four chalets at Mwaleshi are constructed afresh each year from reed and thatch. They have large comfortable beds, solar-powered electric lanterns for lighting, hand-basins, en-suite flushing toilets and bucket showers (hot water available). The en suite bathrooms open to the stars at Mwaleshi offering you a genuine feeling of solitude and seclusion.

Activities

Mwaleshi focuses purely on game viewing walks. No drives are offered here. The wildlife around the camp is abundant, particularly lion and buffalo. A day trip to visit the Mwaleshi Falls is highly recommended.

Dining

Meals are a central part of life at Mwaleshi - the standard of the food is excellent and meals are served largely al-fresco under the stars.
