With unspoiled wildernesses and a promise of adventure, Botswana is one of the last remaining safari destinations in Africa where you can still experience nature as the early explorers did. With a policy of low impact tourism and high value conservation programs Botswana remains as pristine an environment as it was hundreds of years ago.
Small, intimate luxury lodges and camps offer the highest standards of hospitality whether it be in the Okavango Delta, Kalahari Salt Pans, Chobe National Park, Savuti & Linyanti swamps, Tuli Block or the Central Kalahari area. Each area has its own unique beauty and the lodges contained therein have been expertly designed to take advantage of the surrounding environment and provide truly incredible safari experiences. Africa’s best rangers live out in Botswana’s bush – surrounded by Africa’s highest concentrations and varieties of wildlife -which in itself speaks volumes about the quality of a safari in Botswana.
We have spent an unfair amount of time exploring all Botswana’s secret hideaways and have put together some tour and safari ideas for you to help you understand how to combine this amazing country (read more about the lodges, or ENQUIRE with one of our consultants who have been there themselves!)
Mostfamous of all Botswana’s safari regions is undoubtedly the Okavango Delta – often referred to as the best safari destination in the world. A veritable Garden of Eden, the Okavango teems with life of every shape and size. A large variety of activities are on offer from fascinating game drives and walks to mokoro (canoe) excursions and heli-flips over the Delta. The safari experience here is augmented by the high quality of the lodges within the Delta. The emphasis here is on a first class, intimate safari experience. Small luxury boutique lodges and camps blend seamlessly into their environment. The standards of service and accommodation in the Okavango Delta set the standards by which the rest of the African safari lodges follow.
The Chobe National Park is a beautiful area dominated by the meandering Chobe River, a huge population of elephant and a large amount of predators. The Chobe is Africa’s elephant capital. Chobe’s close proximity to the Okavango Delta, Savuti & Linyanti and Victoria Falls make this an excellent combination destination. As well as conventional game viewing activities, the Chobe offers superb riverboat safari cruises, allowing guests to view the game from a completely different perspective. The Chobe’s sunset riverboat cruises are very often one of the highlights of any Botswana stay.
The Savuti and Linyanti Regions also offer the visitor a wide variety of unique game viewing experiences. Less restricted than some of the National Parks, guests can enjoy exciting night drives here- often the best time to view the animals – and thrilling walking safaris. The Savuti & Linyanti is notable for two reasons, namely the regularity of its Wild Dog sightings and the great Zebra Migrations that move between these two vast regions throughout the year.
The richness and variety of the Botswana “experience” is reflected in the two Kalahari Regions that offer a completely different perspective from the Okavango Delta and Chobe regions. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the biggest in the world, is an untouched wilderness area offering superb interaction with the local Bushmen as well as incredible game viewing opportunities. In fact, the scene here after the rains is said to be comparable of the great migrations of East Africa.
The Kalahari Salt Pans Region offers an entirely different experience in complete contrast to the rest of the main tourist regions. Your experience here will be more about witnessing the majestic beauty of this arid yet beautiful part of the country. You will spend your time here whizzing across the pans on quad bikes, discovering ancient archeological sites, learning about the Bushmen’s way of live that has remained unchanged for centuries, star-gazing, taking in majestic sunsets and refreshing the soul with an un-paralleled wilderness experience.
In conclusion, Botswana offers an incredible overall experience for the wildlife enthusiast and for those looking to experience Africa at its very best. Remote and diverse wilderness regions, beautiful scenery, amazing game viewing, superb accommodation with top standards of service and excellent opportunities for cultural interaction – Botswana has it all, so ENQUIRE with one of our experienced Travel Consultants (who have firsthand knowledge of all Botswana’s attractions) and come explore!
