With only 9 seafront villas on this private island, it is a distinctive castaway feel with all the trimmings of a luxury beach holiday. Local materials used in their construction, including natural coral stone, reed shuttered windows and carved beams accentuate the Mozambican culture. Rooms

The island resort accommodates 18 guests in 9 luxury “island villas”. Each villa is constructed entirely with indigenous materials and handcrafted timber, opening onto a private veranda with panoramic sea views. A comfortable 45 square metres in size, every villa is complete with an antique stylised shower, vanity and fittings. Large windows afford magnificent views and allow the sea breeze to waft through the entire villa. Natural rock walls, makuti thatch, and colonial ceiling fans keep you cool by day. The island-style furniture is crafted from indigenous teak and mahogany by local carpenters in the creole Muani style. A king-size bed draped in netting completes the romantic African/Arabian luxury. Every villa has the pleasure of overlooking the sparkling Indian Ocean.

Dining

Above the main beach area, the open-sided bar, lounge and dining area are perfectly positions, with east and west orientations, to enjoy the rose-drenched skies at sunrise and sunset. Here truly delicious lunches and dinners are created from the freshest local, fair-trade produce. The aromatic spices and flavours of Goa and Portugal dominate the cuisine in testament to the country’s past. For special occasions, secluded spots on the beach and cliffs are wonderfully romantic alfresco options.
