Overview

Explore the bare plains of the Namib Desert, the apricot coloured dunes of Sossusvlei, the romantic coastal town of Swakopmund nestled between the Ocean and the Desert, the rough terrain of Damaraland and the abundant wildlife in the world renowned Etosha National Park on this classic Namibia tour.

Itinerary
Day 1

Itinerary

Arrival at Hosea Kutako (Windhoek International) airport, where you will receive your rental vehicle. Once you have sorted out all the formalities for your vehicle, drive to Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia. After check-in at the accommodation establishment, you can explore the city of Windhoek. Windhoek is a city of many contrasts. Modern skyscrapers blend with historic buildings dating from the turn of the century. Several buildings from the German colonial era have been preserved and restored to fulfil useful functions in the community today.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Olive Exclusive – bed & breakfast

Day 2

Itinerary

Departing from Windhoek after breakfast in a southerly direction through the mountains of the Khomas Hochland into the low plains of the Namib Desert to a lodge in the Sossusvlei area, from where you will have excellent opportunities to explore the oldest desert in the world.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Moon Mountain Lodge – dinner, bed & breakfast

Day 3

Itinerary

Early morning rise for a visit to the Sossusvlei dunes. The road from Sesriem to the 2×4 car park (4 kilometres from the vlei) is tarred but is in poor condition and is pot-holed. Because the dunes close in and the road becomes a sandy track near the vlei itself, if you do not have your own 4×4 you will have to either walk the final stretch from the 2×4 parking area to the vlei or use the 4×4 transfer service. The second attraction here is the Sesriem Canyon.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Moon Mountain Lodge – dinner, bed & breakfast

Day4

Itinerary

The route takes you north via the Kuiseb Canyon to Swakopmund. Highlights en route include a drive to the “Moon Landscape” and the ancient desert plant, “Welwitschia mirabilis”. Swakopmund, a quaint desert town with its old-world charm and relaxed atmosphere hedged by desert and sea, is enhanced by lush green lawns and palm trees.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at The Stiltz – bed & breakfast.

Day 5

Itinerary

This day is spent in Swakopmund. The sweep of the coastline and desert hinterland offers many options for adventure and relaxation. You can contact our office in Swakopmund for more information of things to do.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at The Stiltz – bed & breakfast.

Day 6

Itinerary

Departure from Swakopmund along the Atlantic Coast towards the North. Visit the lichen fields near Wlotzka’s Baken before continuing to Henties Bay, a small holiday resort. Onwards via Uis to the Twyfelfontein area.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Mowani Mountain Camp – dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 7

Itinerary

Visit Twyfelfontein. Twyfelfontein, which means “doubtful fountain” resembles a large, open-air art gallery. This treasure house of rock engravings left by stone-age artists is regarded as one of the richest collections of rock engravings in Africa. South of Twyfelfontein is the Burnt Mountain, a panorama of desolation with colored rocks contrasting vividly against the grey-black surroundings. The Organ Pipes, a mass of basalt slabs in a ravine gouged out by a river, is another geological curiosity in the area. Your destination for today is the Etosha region.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Okutala Etosha Lodge – dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 8

Itinerary

Discover the mysteries of the African bush in Etosha National Park, whilst going on game drives in the Etosha Park. Relax at the waterhole and delight in the comings and goings of a variety of game at the floodlit waterhole.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Okutala Etosha Lodge – dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 9

Itinerary

You travel east through Etosha National Park and leave the Park through the von Lindequist Gate, the eastern gate of Etosha to Mushara Bush Camp. En route, you stop at the numerous perennial springs found along the edge of the salt pan in search of lion, leopard, elephant and black rhino. Leave the Park via the eastern von Lindequist Gate and spend this night in a Lodge outside the Park.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Mushara Outpost – dinner, bed & Breakfast.

Day 10

Itinerary

Today’s destination is Okonjima. Okonjima lies nestled in the unspoilt beauty of the Omboroko mountains, part of the well known Waterberg Plateau. In the Herero language Okonjima means “place of the baboons”. Okonjima is so much more than just a luxury lodge. It is also home to the AfriCat Foundation, which is committed to researching and rehabilitating Namibia’s threatened wild cat population.

Accommodation

Overnight stay at Okonjima Bush Camp – full board incl activities.

Day 11

Itinerary

Return journey via Okahandja to Windhoek. Okahandja is an important centre for woodcarvers from the north. They practice their ancient skills at the Woodcarvers Market next to the main road. This is a good place to pick a last souvenir. Arrival in Windhoek with transfer to Hosea Kutako Airport for check-in on your outbound flight. Bid farewell to Namibia!
